In the wake of a love spell gone horribly wrong, Sophie Mercer, a sixteen-year-old witch, is shipped off to Hecate Hall, a boarding school for witches, shapeshifters and faeries. The traumas of mortal high school are nothing compared to the goings on at "Freak High." It's bad enough that she has to deal with a trio of mean girls led by the glamorous Elodie, but it's even worse when she begins to fall for Elodie's gorgeous boyfriend, Archer Cross, and frankly terrifying that the trio are an extremely powerful coven of dark witches. But when Sophie begins to learn the disturbing truth about her father, she is forced to face demons both metaphorical and real, and come to terms with her own growing power as a witch.

I really don't think the cover for Hex Hall does it justice. From looking at the cover you think it's going to be another girly, same old, supernatural teen read. This is why I kept putting it off until I decided to give it a go one night, as I just finished my previous book. But once I started reading it, WOW, I can’t believe how much it shocked me, I couldn't set it down. It is a fun, entertaining and HOT book at a certain point, that made me giggle so much. But things do change and Hex Hall became something different, a much darker story. I am not going to lie, it did creep me out slightly. I think it didn't help either that I was reading it on a stormy night.

Sophie Mercer has become my joined number one, favourite heroine character. I know that isn't great, but Sydney Sage from Bloodlines and Sophie Mercer are very hard to choose from because, they are so alike in many ways. Sophie is brilliant, I couldn't stop laughing at her sarcastic lines she comes out with, even when the situation is meant to be serious, you can always relay on Sophie to lighten the mood. But Sophie has also got another side to her that just makes her an overall beautiful person. She is caring, open-minded, sees the good in everyone even though they have done bad things.

Archer Cross, to begin with I wasn't so hooked on the guy. Yea he has the looks and the charm but I don’t know, there was just something about him that just didn't do it for me. But, oh my, my view on Archer really did change about half way through and now I really do like the guy. He knows how to take Sophie and her sarcastic comments and give as good as he gets. But Archer Cross will very much completely surprise you, but that’s for you to find out. His Character takes a turn for the, interesting, and apparently he is very ripped under that school uniform of his, which he was keeping a secret.

Sophie’s Best Friend Jenna, pink fanatic and the only vampire at Hex Hall, you can’t help but love her, and also feel sorry for her. She is put through some difficult situations in Hex Hall, which she doesn't deserve. But to be honest Jenna up to this point hasn't had an easy life altogether. She is fantastic, a loyal friend and fighter. Overall, she is a genuine, decent person, who deserves love and to be treated right.

Just a little note about Hex Hall before I finish, don’t underestimate anyone because, the people who you think you know, will completely surprise you of who they really are.

To anyone who hasn't read Hex Hall I can’t recommend it highly enough. It has got a bit of everything; romance, action and suspense that will have you on the edge on your seat. It’s just an overall fantastic read which, was that good I couldn't wait to read Demon Glass; I had to know what happened next. Usually I wait till I have the review for the first book wrote before I move on to the next, but Hex Hall was that brilliant I just had read on.

THEY WILL BE TESTED…

Their forbidden romance exposed, Alchemist Sydney and Royal Moroi vampire Adrian find themselves facing the wrath of both of their kind.

When the life of someone they both love is put on the line, Sydney risks everything to hunt down a deadly former nemesis. Meanwhile, Adrian becomes enmeshed in a puzzle that could hold the key to a shocking secret about Spirit magic, a secret that could shakes the entire vampire world and alter his and Sydney’s lives forever.

LOVE WILL CONQUER ALL.
___________________________________________

Is it over? Is it really over? I don’t want it to be over, there is still so much more to give. I actually read the series again before reading the Ruby Circle because I didn't want it to end. I would like to thank Richelle Mead for not only giving us one breathtakingly awesome YA series but two, which in my eyes will be extremely hard to beat. But I especially want to thank her because it was the Vampire Academy which started me off on my journey of reading and reviewing.

Now to the book itself and what a brilliant finale it was, it just summed up everything. I loved how they got all the groups together in one book; the Moroi, the Alchemist, the Dhampirs, the witches and the Warriors. It was just epic to have them altogether; it was one of my favourite parts about this book.

The Ruby Circle made me change my whole view on Nina Sinclair. I went from not liking her to, feeling sorry for her and a little bit sad.  The lives of Nina and Olive, her half Dhampir sister who she brought back from being a strigio, has not been an easy one so far and it’s about to get a hell of a lot harder, and complicated with the involvement of Neil as well.

But the secret puzzle about Spirit magic, that Adrian finds himself getting involved with, I never could see coming. I could never off guessed what it was, even if I tried so hard. It completely shocked me and a lot of lives with the information. But to be honest it is a little cute as well.

I hate to say this but I was disappointed with a few different parts. The first of which is about Angeline. Where did she disappear and why? I know she said she was at Amberwood studying but seriously the Angeline we knew would not just disappear from the action like that, it was such a bad excuse. Also Troy wasn’t in it as much as I thought he was going to be. It was just a little bit disappointing because I grew to love them all, they were in it together from around the beginning, and then these two just disappeared without a trace.

The other part was about Adrian and Sydney. As much as I have grown to love Adrian, bloodlines was meant to from Sydney’s point of view and I feel, we have lost her along the way and gained a more insight into Adrian, and this book especially distance us from Sydney. I really thought it would off ended with Sydney’s feeling, which really disappointed me that it didn't.

For me this doesn’t feel like the end of this supernatural world from the way it ended. It feels like there is more to give, and the way in which Richelle Mead writes you don’t get fed up and bored of reading about it. But unfortunately we do have to say Goodbye to this world for now, and I will live in hope that Richelle Mead is not finished with it yet.

Love doesn’t always have a happy ending for everyone, not everyone gets it so lucky. But the love between Adrian and Sydney just makes your heart melt, it’s so beautiful and the chemistry they have, WOW, it was just on high from the very start. They couldn’t be more Bunlike if they tried, no one could of every imagined Adrian and Sydney together. But they do say opposite attract, it was fate, they were meant to be together.

From the very beginning they put everything on the line for each other. No matter what the situation was that they find themselves in, they always fought it together and had each other in mind, even when they were not together. Love will conquer all and it always will for Adrian and Sydney.

Sisterhood of The World Bloggers Award

Thank you so much A Geek With Books for this nomination.

The Rules (they aren't so bad)...
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their website
  • Use the award logo on your post
  • Answer the 10 questions provided by the blogger who tagged you
  • Nominate 10 bloggers
  • Ask them 10 questions
____________________________________________________________________

Question's For Me To Answer...

1. Do you have a favourite book? If so, what is it?

Oh this is an extremely hard questions to answer, if not impossible because there are too many great books out there that I love. I mostly read series's of books so if I had to choose out of all of them it would have to be, Bloodlines. I am obsessed with that series's, I have read it twice already and am sure I will be back reading it again shortly. I am current reading Hex Hall series, nearly finished book 2 and to be honest, its surprising me of how good it is.

2. What's another hobby you have that isn't related to books/blogging?

I am really into yoga, I know weird isn't it. But its a great way to relax, stay in shape and just to take a moment out of this hectic world and think about things, its great for de-stressing.

3. What's the best book-to-movie adaptation you've seen?

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2. Well, both of the movies were brilliant, actually more than brilliant but Part 2 shocked me the most with just how awesome it was. Especially the part when Alice shows the future to Aro on the field and I thought it was the actually battle, it was so believable. Sometimes you just can't get that sort of epic moment from a book.

4. How big are you're bookshelves, and how many do you have? (Wait... You all have bookshelves, right? That seems like a priority.)

Right now its not overlay big because I am only new to reading. But so far I have about Forty books. It grows constantly however because, I am forever buying books. Weirdly enough (because my FiancĂ© keeps dragging me into them, so he can find bargains) I have bought a few books from charity shops. I got three books for a £1 (I think that exchanges into $1.57 or 1.37 just for people who don't use the Pound £).

5. How did you discover the book blogging community?

I am not sure if I really remember how I discovered the book blogging community. I remember when I started up my blog (also not sure how I discovered blogger) people started telling me about different sites for book bloggers, and others I found myself and it just went from there.

6. When did you first start labelling yourself as a "reader"?

Compared to other people who post 3 reviews a week and are always reading new books, I only post maybe 2 or 3 reviews in a month. Am not sure if I classify myself as a reader because I am only new to both reading and the blogging community.

7. Do you speak any other languages besides English?

No unfortunately I don't. I have always wanted to fluently speak another language. We learn a couple of languages in school but not to the point you could understand a full conversation and be able to communicate yourself.

8. Are you a dog or a cat person?

I love both dogs and cats but I would probably say I am more of a cat person.

9. What sound/song is your alarm?

I don't like having songs as my alarm because I am not a morning person at all, and I would just end up hating the song. I have a Samsung Galaxy and I don't think I have changed the alarm song since I got it. So, its the default alarm sound.

10. How frequently do you check social media/your phone?

It really depends on what sort of mood I am in. Some days I will check them every five minutes were other days it will be, every hour or so. Then if am busy or out doing something, I wont really check them until am home or at a restaurant eating. Or if am bored I would check them every, five seconds.

Questions For You To Answer...

1. What is a book/books you would love to see turned into a film or TV series?

2. Have you ever bought a book from a charity shop? If not would you consider it?

3. What character would you like to have as your best friend?

4. How many physical books do you have? and, How many eBooks do you have?

5. What are your Top 5 Series'?

6. What five books would you recommend to read?

7. Do you read before you sleep?

8. Do you own any audio books and if so what do you think of them?

9. Off the topic off books, have you ever considered researching into your family        tree/history? (Recently I have considered researching into mine, to find out who      my ancestries are and what they done?

My Story

My Story isn't this, ‘I have loved books since I was a young girl’. My story is more like, ‘when I finished university and found myself with a lot of free time I began to read books.’

Yea, I know not so interesting and here goes some more boring information going against books (which I am sorry about). I remember when I was younger, my Dad always tried to make me read, but at that age I was just not interested. I remember going to the library all the time and picking books out, but when I got home and tried to read them they just bored me. Don’t get me wrong, throughout the years I have read the odd book and I have enjoyed them all. Then all off a sudden I just gained this massive desire to read once I got my degree and I have no idea where it came from but, I am glad it did.

The book, well book series that got me started on my book journey was Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. Then of course I followed it on with the Bloodlines Series. Wow, I have so many great words for these series’ they are utterly fantastic.

I think it was after the third series' of me constantly talking about books, my fiancĂ©, friends and family had enough of me talking about things that didn't interest so I decided to make a blog and write down all my feelings and opinions. I enjoy it so much, it’s something for me and I have learned not to follow everyone just because they are doing it. I am reading and blogging at my own pace rather than feeling the pressure that I have to blog about 50 times a week (I know going over broad there with 50 but you get the idea). And now, here I am currently telling you my long, uninteresting story of how I started reading and blogging. Hope use enjoyed.

My Advice

My pieces of advice are:
  • Be yourself, don’t get caught up feeling that you have to blog so many times a week or feel that just because someone else is doing something on their blog that you have to. Blog at your own pace because if you don’t, you will find yourself getting stressed out and eventually, hating it, which would be such a shame.
  • Also don’t get caught up on trying to get followers and freaking out about how many people haven’t joined your site compared to someone else’s. Sit back, relax and just blog and you will find people will eventually find you.

Review

The first book in the series and unfortunately I have to say I didn’t really like it. It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be at all. I did want to like it because normally these are my kind of books, but I just couldn’t get into it at all.

I thought I would have liked the story being told from Ethan’s point of view because he is an unexpected person. Your first thought would be, it would be told from Lena’s point of view however, the book being told from Ethan’s point doesn’t work for me.

If it was told from Lena’s point of view I feel we would of learned and understood more about caster’s and their lives. This is why I feel I was so confused a lot of the time because I didn’t understand what was happening or why. We had to wait until Ethan understood and then I feel a massive part happened and past before you get the full epic feeling of it, which is such a shame. I think this series would of have had great potential and done so much better if a little more thought had gone into it.

There was many occasions throughout the book when I thought, “Yes, this when the book is going to take whole of me, this is when am not going to be able to set the book down and feel lost without it”.  But, it done what the book is famous for and confused me.
I found myself having to re-read parts over and over again and it wasn’t because I loved it, it was because I just couldn’t understand what was happening.

The chapters to me were very long winded, a quarter of the book could have been cut away and the story would still have made sense. Another suggestion would be more chapters could have been added to spread out the crammed information which might have made it less confusing. I would have had breathing time to properly digest the information.

What I did love about the book was how they choose such a unique setting compared to a more modern cities or towns in the south of North America, the southern accent is brilliant, I love it. But that is where the love for this book ends. I feel we never got to know any of the characters very well or their personalities. The book is way TOO LONG and just all jumbled up. At different stages throughout the book it kept referring to situations which occurred earlier in the book and you are expected to remember it. COME ON, the book is too long and goes at a snail’s pace how to do expect people to remember such boring events.

Review

This book brought me through a mixture of emotions. It made me shout, because you know they were going to listen to me, it made me angry, cry A LOT and smile from ear to ear with pure happiness.

Silver Shadows was hard to read NOT because it was a terrible book, quite the opposite actually. It was fantastic but reading about the pain people were being put through, the sorrow and the fear they had for their lives, was very difficult to read. I felt myself screaming at the book.  Sydney is such a beautiful person in mind and spirit and for people to do what they done to her, is just awful.

Adrian acted completely different compared to what I thought he was going to. For half of this book he just annoyed me, he gave up trying to find Sydney and allowed himself to get dragged further and further into spirits dark side. He had made such good progress and then just threw it all away because he wasn’t getting anywhere. If only he knew the pain and terror Sydney was being put through, he would have fought with everything he had and he never would of gave up to begin with.

Sheridan is a nasty piece of works. She is like all the villains I have known rolled into one. I just don’t understand how someone can hurt, torture and violate another human being like she does.

Richelle Mead has done an outstanding job with Sheridan’s character. Sheridan got under my skin, I seriously hate her. I don’t think any punishment would be enough for her. Sheridan is an evil heartless human who deserves nothing but the worse.

She is a border line physio path, if not already one. The question I had in my head throughout Silver Shadows is; how can people actually work in a place where they do this sort of torture to people? Even if they think it is for the greater good, there are limits. I know they think they are getting rid of the evil in them but come on the things they are doing is just sick in the head. It creep’s me out.

I just wanted to shout at Sydney throughout the first half of the book and tell her to just play the game so you can get out!!!! I hated her being in re-education but I admire her courage. She is one of the best characters I have read about and she will be hard to beat. Anyone in her situation would off given up, even I would. But she kept kicking and fitting and that’s what makes Sydney’s so special.

Sydney doing everything possible in her power to get herself in trouble was really annoying me. I just wanted her to stop so she doesn’t get punished anymore. But I know Sydney is doing this for a good reason to save everyone else, so in a way I want her to keep doing it. I just keep having mixed emotions all the time.

The events that happened between Adrian and Sydney had me on the edge of my seat. I found myself reading so fast and holding my breath. Richelle Mead was just teasing us, allowing us to think Adrian and Sydney would be allowed to be together but then, BAM, she would through in yet another twist. I nearly had numerous heart attacks.

Throughout the first half of this book I kept having mixed emotions of whether to read on or not. It was hard to read with all the pain everyone was going through from Sydney and whole way down the line to Adrian, all alone in his drunken miserable state, wondering through life not known what to do.

But the last quarter of Silver Shadows OH MY DAYSSS!!!! It was back to the action I love. The first half of the ending had me smiling, like big grin smiling from ear to ear.  It was beautiful, I couldn’t be happier. Richelle Mead done Adrian and Sydney proud with the actions he took and the words they spoke. I think maybe a little tear fell from my eye. Silver Shadows has given me my favourite quote in a book of all time and it will be extremely hard to beat.

I don’t want to say it because it will give a huge spoiler away but I just can’t keep it to myself; (if use don’t want to read skip past)

“Until now, you have always lived your life alone. Every decision you’ve made has been for you and you alone. Now, and for the rest of your days, your life will be tied to another’s. Every decision you make will be for both of you. What one does affects the other. You are a family, a team … inseparable and unbreakable.”

This book from beginning to end of action packed. It was like a never ending roller coaster of emotions and sinking stomach moments when you drop all of a sudden.

When I found out the BIG cliff hanger at the end of the Silver Shadows, I was completely shocked I knew there would be some consequences of the actions taken but I never though this!! But I will admit I have a feeling of who it could be. I can’t wait to read The Ruby Circle to see if I am correct.
